Development Trends Of Children's Socks

In 2024, the Chinese children's sock market showed steady growth driven by multiple factors. According to statistics from the China Knitting Industry Association, the annual market size reached approximately RMB 32.87 billion, a year-on-year increase of 8.9%. Functional children's socks accounted for 38.2% of the market, an increase of 4.7 percentage points compared to 2023, demonstrating the significant role of consumption upgrading in optimizing product structure. The upstream raw material supply system is becoming increasingly (perfected/improved). The annual demand for core raw materials such as cotton, polyester fiber, and spandex reached 128,000 tons, 97,000 tons, and 12,000 tons respectively. Raw material costs accounted for 68.5% of total production costs, and the application rate of environmentally friendly regenerated cellulose fiber reached 8%, which is expected to increase to 12% by 2025. The automation level of the midstream manufacturing process has significantly improved, with 72.3% of enterprises possessing automated production lines.

 

Circular knitting technology is developing towards refinement, the adoption rate of one-time molding processes has increased to over 65%, and the product qualification rate has remained stable at a high level of 99.2%. Downstream sales channels are becoming increasingly diversified. Online e-commerce accounted for 42.3% of sales, a year-on-year increase of 28.6%. Offline retail channels, including children's clothing specialty stores, department stores, and maternity and baby chain stores, collectively accounted for 56.5% of the market share. Emerging models such as live-streaming e-commerce and community group buying contributed approximately 35% of the incremental growth. In the international market, developed markets in Europe and America maintained an average annual growth rate of 3.2%, with functional products accounting for over 50%. The Japanese and South Korean markets, on the other hand, place greater emphasis on design innovation, with fashion-forward products accounting for 38.7%.

 

Regarding the policy environment, national policies supporting the textile industry and safety standards for children's products are continuously improving. Environmental regulations are becoming stricter, and industry entry barriers are gradually increasing. It is estimated that 30% of outdated production capacity will be eliminated by 2025. The market development trend over the next five years will revolve around four core directions: First, the transformation of product structure driven by consumption upgrades, with functional, environmentally friendly, and personalized products becoming mainstream. The market share of functional children's socks is expected to reach 45% by 2025. Second, the profound transformation of sales models by new retail formats, with omnichannel marketing integrating online and offline channels becoming standard, and online sales expected to exceed 50%. Third, industrial upgrading driven by technological innovation, with intelligent manufacturing, digital management, and the application of new materials becoming key competitive factors, and R&D investment as a percentage of revenue expected to increase to 5.5%.

 

Fourth, the reshaping of the market competition landscape, with the concentration of leading brands further increasing. The market share of the top ten brands is expected to rise from the current 35% to 45%, and small and medium-sized enterprises needing to seek survival through differentiated positioning and professional development.
